Lauren Berg

Birth Date: 1960-04-02
Graduation year: 1978
Deceased Date: 2024-10-04
Obituary:
Lauren Arthur Berg passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, October 4th, 2024 at the age of 64.
Lauren was born in Duluth, Minnesota on the 2nd day of April, 1960 to Stanley and Dorothy (Young) Berg. He was the youngest of six children and raised in a two bedroom home filled with lots of love, and plenty of excitement. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lakeside Bethany Lutheran Church, attended Lakeside Elementary, Ordean Junior High and was a graduate of Duluth East High School, Class of 1978.

While growing up in Duluth Lauren enjoyed playing both youth football and softball. When in the 8th grade, hockey became his sport of choice and he played on the Portman Hockey Team, Duluth Rotary Hockey Team, Duluth Aerials and Duluth East High.

In January, 1980, Lauren enlisted in the United States Air Force and was initially assigned to Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska as an Administrative Support and Personnel Specialist. In 1981, he took his second assignment with the 600 Tactical Control Group/DOY, Hessich Oldendorf Air Station, Germany where he was mentored and guided into cross training for a flying position as a Radio Operator. In 1984 he left Germany for cross training and was fortunate enough to be assigned to the 552nd Airborne Warning and Control Group, Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, flying stateside and overseas missions. Lauren also flew Combat Operations during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He later took an assignment to Hurlburt Field, Florida flying Air Force Special Operations missions until his retirement in 1995.

While stationed at Tinker, AFB in Oklahoma, Lauren met the love of his life, Miss Kimberly Stephens. Kimberly and Lauren were married July 25th, 1987and welcomed their daughter, Madison in 1991. Upon Lauren's retirement from the Air Force, he returned to Oklahoma with his family and chose to make their home in Choctaw. Lauren continued his service to our nation working at Tinker, AFB as a civilian in the Maintenance Division until his retirement in 2020, with a total of 38 years combined military and civil service.

Lauren had many loves in life, including OSU games, tailgating, and golf. He golfed regularly, playing in two leagues and any tournament he could fit into his schedule. You could always count on Lauren to be the best dressed guy on the golf course! Family hunts were something he looked forward to every year. This included taking the bird dogs out with his father in-law, brothers in-law and nephews. He enjoyed cooking for crowds, using his famously large smoker and entertaining friends and family. Lauren never met a stranger, had the gift of gab, loved a good story, good joke and had a genuine love for all.

Unfortunately, on December 5th of 2019, Lauren was diagnosed with cancer and fought like no other and will be missed by many. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Kimberly Berg of Choctaw, OK; daughter Madison (Tylor) Wells of Harrah, OK; granddaughters Aspen Wells and Paislea Wells both of Edmond, OK; grandson Arlo Wells of Harrah, OK; sister Betty (Wells) McGiffert of Venice, FL; sister Sandy (Phil) Heimbach of Palacios, TX; sister LaRayne (John) Malone of Duluth, MN; brother Larry (Leanne) Berg of Duluth, MN; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews along with a host of family and friends.

Elizabeth "Beth" Daugherty

Birth Date: 1960-01-11
Deceased Date: 2010-06-29
Obituary:

Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Daugherty, 50, of Monticello, Minn., formerly of Duluth, died June 29, 2010, in St. Cloud (Minn.) Hospital.

Beth was born Jan. 11, 1960, in Duluth. She graduated from East High School and attended U.W.S. where she was a promising and active member of the ROTC, and a dedicated, gifted student, especially in photography. Her gregarious and amiable personality served her well in her jobs within the hospitality industry.

Animals and plants were very special to her. She worked with plants for a number of years, and she continued to garden until the end. These character traits and talents gave her an affinity for the great outdoors and rustic living. She lived on the North Shore of Lake Superior, in the mountains of Colorado and eventually back to the forests of Minnesota. Words most often used to describe her are humorous, generous, bold, talented and intelligent, yet, tormented.

She was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder or manic-depression in her early adult life. This mood disorder, often associated with creativity and positive achievements, may strike the affected person with abnormally elevated energy levels that are followed by one or more depressive episodes.

She was preceded in death by her mother Joan Mankowski Heim; her birth father Robert Daugherty; and her brother Eric Heim.

Beth is survived by her father Richard Heim; brothers, Kevin (Jeanine) Daugherty of Big Bend, Wis., and Brian (Heidi) Daugherty and Christopher (Donna) Heim, all of Duluth; aunt Pat Daugherty of Duluth; uncle Bill and aunt Connie Daugherty of Geneseo, Ill.; and special friend Craig Broen.

I knew Peter briefly during Congdon Park days where he was a kid that was perhaps "from the other side of the tracks" but was someone I connected with and think about often. RIP my friend! -r
