Mark A. Kosmerl, 47, formerly of Duluth, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from complications of hit and run accident in Oct. 2006 in Las Vegas. Mark was born Jan. 12, 1960 in Charles City, Iowa.
Mark attended and graduated from Duluth East High School in 1978. After graduation he worked at the Cantonese House as a cook (he preferred 'chef'). Mark joined the United States Air Force in Jan. 1979. He achieved many promotions; the last one was Master Sergeant. Mark worked in the office of Special Police in charge of the Armory. While in the Air Force, Mark was stationed at many different bases including; Lackland AFB, Texas, Beale AFB, Edwards AFB, Vandenberg AFB, all in California and Nellis AFB, Las Vegas. Overseas bases include Manila, Philippines, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Japan and South Korea. Mark also served in Desert Storm in 1996. Mark retired from the Air Force in Feb. 2003 with many honors, commendations, and accomplishment.
Once retired from the service, he worked for Dyncorp, a security company on Nellis AFB. He also enjoyed dabbling in the kitchen with new recipes, walking and playing with his dogs, and working in his meticulously pruned backyard. Mark loved when his family came to Vegas to visit; he thoroughly enjoyed the role of tour guide.
Mark will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Cindy; their daughter, Melissa; step-son, Jason Pitman, and his beloved pets Tasha, Xena, Zoe, and Gabby. Mark will also be missed by his parents, Anthony L. and Betty Jean Kosmerl; sisters, Judith McNeally and Karen (Arlen) Bordenkircher of Duluth; and brother Greg (Pam) Kosmerl of Wrenshall, Minn.; along with nieces, nephews; and one grandson.
